Last weekend was nothing short of magical. 🌟
As I walked through the backstage doors for my debut with the @texaslegends at their season opener, I couldn’t help but feel the weight of this incredible journey. From a young girl with big dreams and a cello to this moment—partnering with an @nbagleague team to bring my music to their world.
This reel is a little peek behind the scenes 🎬:
👮♂️ Walking through security, nerves and excitement intertwined.
🤝 Walking with @myllesroyals , the amazing force who helped make this partnership a reality.
🎛️ Working with Tony, the sound guy who ran the longest line I’ve ever played on.
💃 Catching warm-ups with the cheerleaders, fellow performers, and athletes.
🏃♀️ Running up and down to greet friends, supporters, and the incredible crowd.
Every soundcheck, every note, every step up to that stage was for this moment, and yall were right there with me. The energy backstage was electric ⚡, and the music that backed this reel perfectly captures the emotional crescendo of it all.
To all my followers, friends, and supporters: thank you. 💖
Every like, every comment, every share, and every encouraging message has lifted me higher. You’re not just following @jccellostudio ; you’re part of this story, this dream, this movement.

This moment feels like a dream I’ve been chasing my whole life. From decades as a classically trained cellist who felt stuck in the grind of orchestras and teaching, to carving my own path in an industry that didn’t always value me—I’m finally here, standing at center court, playing for thousands at the Texas Legends’ season opener.
It hasn’t been easy. There were times I wanted to give up. Times when the sacrifices felt too heavy. But today, as a 38-year-old mom performing in front of my husband, my kids, and friends who’ve supported me every step of the way, I’m reminded: It’s never too late to start over, to dream bigger, or to bet on yourself.
Every note I played tonight carried the weight of my struggles and the triumph of finding my own voice. To anyone out there chasing their dreams, even when the odds feel impossible: Keep going. The world needs what only you can give.
Huge thanks to the @texaslegends for this season’s partnership & many wins!
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who believed in me—this is for us. 💙

🎻 God Bless America… with a Bach twist! 🇺🇸✨
Tomorrow, I’ll take the court with the Texas Legends for a unique performance of God Bless America— but not without a little classical inspiration. Today, I’m experimenting with different styles for game day, and this rendition is in the style of a “Bach Sarabande”: a slow and elegant dance from the Baroque era.
Did you know Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cello Suites consist of 6 suites, each containing movements like preludes, gigues, and yes, sarabandes?
These suites have stood the test of time because of their expressive depth and emotional versatility.
Merging this timeless art form with a modern anthem is my way of paying homage to both tradition and creativity.
Come Sunday, I’ll be weaving together classical and contemporary sounds to celebrate freedom and unity on and off the court. 🎶 Who’s ready for a twist on the classics?
🎤 Let me know—what would YOU love to hear reimagined?
👉🏼 And don’t forget to catch the performance at the game!

This Sunday, I’m beyond grateful to be stepping onto the court as the opener for the @texaslegends game against the Memphis Hustle, performing “God Bless America” on electric cello.

12 years ago, I said ‘yes’ to the man who not only loved me but also believed in my passion for being a cellist.
He took me to watch another cellist perform the Dvorak Cello Concerto, then got down on one knee—and I’m so glad I said yes.
Since then, we’ve built an amazing life together, from raising our two incredible boys to navigating new paths in our careers.
I’m endlessly grateful for his unwavering support, belief in me, love, and dedication as a father. Here’s to us and all that we’ve created together!

👩🏼💼🎻 Mom. Musician. Business Owner.
Balancing all three isn’t just a challenge—it’s a *lifestyle*. After years of ups and downs, I’ve learned a few things about thriving in this industry while building a family.
Here’s the reality:
1️⃣ Time is your most precious resource. As a mom and business owner, I have to be incredibly intentional with my time. Every hour spent on stage, in meetings, or in rehearsals is an hour away from my family. That’s why valuing my time—and charging for it appropriately—is non-negotiable.
2️⃣ Boundaries are essential. Whether it’s a business that wants to pay you in exposure, or clients asking for last-minute favors, setting boundaries protects both your personal and professional life.
3️⃣ Self-worth fuels success. Over the years, I’ve learned to say no to gigs that don’t align with my value. As a musician, and especially as a mother, you have to protect your energy. When you value yourself, the right clients and opportunities will recognize that worth and come knocking.
In this final episode, I share more about how I’ve navigated these challenges—and why I encourage every musician to *demand respect* for their talent, time, and contribution. (They won’t be “given” to you w/o you fighting for it)
✨ It’s not easy to juggle the roles of mom, artist, and business owner, but it’s possible. You don’t have to choose between your passion and your family—you can build both. 🙌🏽

The Psychological and Emotional Challenges of Being an Independent Musician and Mom
🧠 Let’s get real about the mental load of being a mom and running a music business.
On the outside, it might look like I’ve got it all figured out—building a music brand, performing at events, and raising a family.
But the truth? Balancing motherhood and managing a full-time music career is no easy task.
There’s so much happening behind the scenes that people don’t always see.
Here’s the reality:
1️⃣ Constant juggling: Being a mom means you’re always multitasking—scheduling gigs between school pickups, responding to clients while cooking dinner, and trying to find time to practice while your kids need you.
2️⃣ Emotional exhaustion: Running a business demands mental energy. Every negotiation, every performance, and every decision as a business owner can be draining. Add motherhood into the mix, and it’s a constant struggle to find balance.
3️⃣ The pressure to succeed: As a mom and entrepreneur, I constantly feel the pressure to “do it all”—provide for my family, build a sustainable business, and still be present for my kids and husband. But success isn’t just about money; it’s about protecting your mental health and finding joy in both your career and family life.
I’ve learned to embrace both roles, but it hasn’t been without challenges. My journey has taught me that self-care isn’t selfish— it’s necessary.
As musicians and entrepreneurs, we often put everyone else first, but if we’re not mentally and emotionally strong, neither our families nor our businesses thrive.
✨ So here’s my message to all the moms out there grinding to build their dreams: You’re not alone. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed.
But remember, you’re creating something incredible—for yourself, for your kids, and for your future. 💪🏽🎶

Creating Your Own Opportunities as a Musician
🌟 Creating your own opportunities: a necessity for every independent musician and a mom.
As a full-time musician and a mom, I’ve learned the hard way that waiting for opportunities to come knocking isn’t an option. Between school runs, rehearsals, and gigs, every moment counts. Here’s what I’ve discovered about taking control of my music career while balancing motherhood:
1️⃣ Be Proactive: I don’t just wait for the phone to ring; I actively seek out opportunities that align with my skills and passions. This means reaching out to potential clients, networking within my community, and promoting my brand consistently.
2️⃣ Set Your Own Terms: As a mom, my schedule is dictated by my children’s needs, so I’ve learned to create opportunities that work for me. This could mean offering unique performances at events that appeal to families or creating flexible collaboration options that fit into my lifestyle.
3️⃣ Build Relationships: I focus on forging genuine connections with other business owners and clients. By understanding their needs and how my music can enhance their events, I create win-win partnerships that respect my time and talent.
4️⃣ Leverage My Experience: As a mom, I bring a unique perspective to my music that resonates with other parents and families. I use my experiences to connect with my audience and create performances that reflect our shared journey.
✨ Remember, you are not just a musician; you are a multifaceted individual with valuable experiences to share.
In this journey, it’s vital to stay proactive, set boundaries, and focus on building meaningful relationships. By doing so, I not only grow my music business but also show my children the power of perseverance and passion. Together, we can create a life we love—both on and off the stage. 💖🎶

🤣🤣The joke is on me, from classical dreams to electric reality 🎶
Growing up as a classically trained cellist, I used to think cover artists and musicians playing electric cello were failed musicians. The idea of spending my life as a “real” musician meant years of elite training, pricey degrees, and, well, draining my grandparents’ inheritance (sorry, grandma & grandpa😬).
I believed that classical music was the only path to “real success.” So, I worked harder, played longer, and poured everything into avoiding the route I thought wasn’t good enough. Ironically, that’s exactly where I ended up—and guess what? It’s the best decision I ever made.
Today, I own JC Cello Studio and perform at the most prestigious events, entertaining high-end audiences while playing the same electric cello covers I once turned my nose up at. And here’s the kicker: I’m making 10x what I made in the classical world! 🤯
💡 What I’ve learned: Success doesn’t come from sticking to one path. It comes from embracing who you are, adapting, and finding joy in what you do—even if it wasn’t part of your original plan.
The idea that cover musicians and live artists are “less than” is so outdated. I’ve built a beautiful life, with time for my family, slow mornings, projects that excite me, and clients who bring meaning to my brand. I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything.
So, to anyone who thinks playing cover songs is a step down—let me tell you, it’s more like a step up. 🎻✨

Turning Down Gigs That Don’t Align—Balancing Business, Music, and Motherhood
🚫 Saying NO isn’t easy—but sometimes it’s necessary.
As a musician, business owner, and mom of two, I’ve had to make some tough choices. Every gig, every project, every opportunity takes time—and as much as I love what I do, my time is precious. There’s family to care for, a business to run, and kids to raise. So when a gig doesn’t respect my value or align with my goals, I’ve learned to walk away. Here’s why:
1️⃣ Not every opportunity is the right one. Early in my career, I used to accept every gig, thinking more work meant more success. But I realized that saying yes to everything was draining my energy and taking time away from both my business and my family.
2️⃣ Boundaries are essential. As a mom, I need time to be present for my kids. As a business owner, I need time to nurture my brand and pursue quality clients. By setting boundaries, I ensure that every yes I give is meaningful—for me, my family, and my music.
3️⃣ Quality over quantity. I’ve learned that fewer, better-aligned gigs bring more joy, more income, and more impact. Saying no to projects that don’t fit allows me to focus on the ones that truly move the needle for my career and honor my time as a mom.
✨ As an independent musician and a mom, I’ve realized that success isn’t about taking every opportunity—it’s about choosing the right ones.
Your time is your most valuable resource, and by protecting it, you create space for both your business and your family to thrive.
So to all my fellow musicians—especially the moms—remember: You have the power to choose. Say no when it’s necessary, and watch how the right doors start opening. 🙌🏽

The Myth of ‘Exposure’ as Payment
💸 Let’s talk about “exposure” — and why it’s not enough.
As musicians, we’ve all heard it: “This gig will be great exposure for you!” But here’s the truth: Exposure doesn’t pay rent. It doesn’t cover the hours of practice, the cost of equipment, or the years spent honing your craft. Yet, many businesses still think offering “exposure” is an acceptable form of compensation.
Here’s what you need to understand:
1️⃣ Your time has value. Every hour you spend performing, preparing, and promoting is time you could be investing elsewhere.
2️⃣ Exposure doesn’t guarantee future gigs. Many times, that “exposure” leads to more requests for free work, not paid opportunities.
3️⃣ It’s about respect. When a business truly values your work, they’re willing to invest in it—financially, not just through promises of visibility.
I used to say yes to gigs for exposure, thinking it would open doors. What I found instead was that the right doors only opened when I started charging what I was worth. And guess what? The clients who paid me respected me *more* and provided the kind of exposure that actually mattered—because they valued the art I brought to their events.
✨ This isn’t just about music—it’s about self-worth. As a professional, you deserve to be paid for your time, energy, and talent. Don’t settle for exposure alone. Know your value, and the right opportunities will follow. 🙌🏽

The Realities of Being a Professional Musician 👩🎤
🎶 Being a musician is more than just a passion—it’s a business.
After 30 years of playing, performing, and creating, I’ve learned that talent alone isn’t enough. Running my own music brand means constantly creating opportunities, negotiating contracts, and knowing my value. But the path isn’t always straightforward—and that’s exactly what I’ll be talking about in this 5-part series.
Over the next 4 episodes, I’ll be diving into the *real* challenges of being an independent musician:
1️⃣ Why exposure doesn’t pay the bills.
2️⃣ The power of saying no to gigs that don’t align.
3️⃣ How I create my own opportunities to thrive as a musician.
4️⃣ The emotional and psychological toll of asserting your worth in this industry.
Stick with me for these honest conversations, and let’s redefine what it means to be a professional musician. 🎧💼

🎶 “Creativity without business is usually victimization…” – @pharrell 💡
As musicians, we pour our heart, soul, and creativity into our craft. But what happens when we’re expected to deliver for free or cheap? The industry can easily victimize artists who don’t take charge of their business. 🤯
During this performance, my cello end pin started slipping on the concrete floor. We didn’t stop the show—we created a makeshift rock stop with duct tape and cardboard in front of hundreds of people. 🛠️
It was a small moment, but it represents a bigger truth: being a professional musician isn’t just about talent—it’s about thinking fast, building a business, and creating a sustainable life. 💼
Music should NEVER be undervalued. If you’re expecting cheap or free, you’re asking for the impossible: talent, hard work, and creativity without business sense.
🔥 At JC Cello Studio, we’ve built a thriving business around live music entertainment, working with top-tier brands, corporations, and high-end clients. Because we know that musicians deserve to be valued. 🔥
Musicians—don’t let anyone devalue your creativity. Your art is worth more than what people are willing to pay for convenience. Build a business that supports your passion, and never settle for less than you deserve. 💪🎻
Clients—appreciate the magic behind the music. It’s not just entertainment; it’s a lifetime of dedication, perseverance, and mastery. 🙌
We can all create something extraordinary when we respect the balance between creativity and business. Keep pushing, keep building, and never stop believing in the value of your work. ✨

🎶🤦♀️ How to Upset a Musician: The Ultimate Guide! 🤦♀️🎶
Ever wondered how to get under a musician’s skin? Here are 10 surefire ways! 😅
1. “Your job must be so easy and fun!”
(Yeah, right! Try 18-hour days, my friend!)
2. “Play something!”
(Because I totally know every song in existence on command!)
3. “My cousin plays the violin.”
(Oh great! That’s just like saying “my dog can bark!”)
4. “I love to go to the symphony!”
(Wonderful! But they didn’t pay my bills!)
5. “So what’s your real job?”
(Um, this is it! My passion is real work!)
6. “Wow, you play that for a living? Must be nice to just do your hobby all day!”
(If only playing *and* surviving was as easy as it sounds!)
7. “It’ll be great exposure!”
(Sure, I’ll just pay my mortgage & kids with “exposure credits!”)
8. “We want live music but… don’t have a budget.”
(Inquiring without a budget is just code for “we want it for free.”)
9. “How much for 15 minutes?”
($1000+ because there’s still travel, equipment, load-in/out & time, set up, rehearsal & sound check before the 15 minute performance)
10. “Can you turn it down?”
(Just what I want—to perform like I’m at a library!)

🥴 The frustration is real when people think they’re doing me a favor by offering ‘exposure’ gigs.
This mindset tells me two things:
1️⃣ They haven’t taken the time to understand what I do or even looked at my website.
2️⃣ They don’t truly value or appreciate my work. If they did, they wouldn’t offer unpaid opportunities through religious organizations expecting me to donate my time and skills.
I’ve learned the hard way that real respect comes when we stand up for our worth and refuse to let others devalue our work for so-called “exposure.”
Here are five different ways friends and family can support JC Cello Studio:
✅ Connect Us Directly: Instead of trying to create exposure opportunities, simply share a point of contact! JC Cello Studio is a direct-to-consumer live music entertainment provider. If someone you know is looking for exceptional live music, introduce us, and we’ll handle the rest professionally.
✅ Engage on Social Media: One of the best ways to support is by following, liking, and sharing the content you see on Instagram (@jccellostudio). Every story, post, and reel offers insight into what JC Cello Studio is all about and how to work with us. Your engagement goes a long way in boosting visibility.
✅ Skip the Religious Gigs: Please refrain from offering religious gigs for me to “donate” services worth over $1,000. After 30 years in the industry, I can tell you that these never bring in paying clients. I appreciate the thought, but my time and skills need to be valued like any other business professional’s.
✅ Understand the Investment in Live Music: A live music budget doesn’t just cover performance time. Musicians also travel with equipment and instruments worth anywhere from $10,000 to $30,000+ for gigs. This investment is part of what makes live music an unforgettable experience—and it’s important to reflect that in the budget.
✅ Musicians Are Businesses Too: Keep in mind, musicians like myself cover our own taxes, save for the business, and pay ongoing overhead costs that clients often don’t realize. This is why we have a set price.

Ever wondered what goes into delivering a flawless performance? It’s not just about hitting the stage.
For every gig, I pour over hours into curating the perfect set, hours practicing, and countless hours communicating and organizing.
While some advocate for ‘free gigs for the love of the arts,’ playing for dive bars and free venues for beers & fries for the remainder of their life it’s important to recognize how this undervalues our craft and impacts the industry.
As the founder of JC Cello Studio, I’ve seen firsthand how the real work—unloading gear, setting up, and fine-tuning—translates into an unforgettable experience for hundreds or thousands of guests.
True artistry involves respect for both the craft and the professionals who bring it to life. Let’s elevate the conversation and celebrate the dedication behind every note. 🎶✨

From sheltered practice rooms to elite stages—my journey as a musician has been anything but ordinary.
🎻 Growing up as a classically trained cellist, I was always told that success meant following a traditional path:
✅ auditions
✅ competitions
✅ waiting for approval from the ‘right’ people.
(Been there done that 🥱)
But after years of dedication and 18-hour days for barely enough to survive, I realized something had to change.
I took a leap into the unknown, embracing the electric cello and building my own brand. Now, I get to perform at high-end events like Arvest Wealth’s cocktail hour at the PGA Omni Frisco through @eventmechanicsco , creating unforgettable experiences for clients.
It’s moments like these that remind me how powerful music can be—both as an art form and a business.
This journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s brought me the freedom and joy I was searching for. My message to other musicians: don’t wait for permission.
Create your own path, elevate your craft, and never settle for less than you’re worth.
Here’s to the next chapter, full of music, empowerment, and unforgettable events. 🎶

🎶 POV: The Soundcheck Grind 🎶
You thought being a musician was all about playing for the crowd... but it’s really about nailing that soundcheck so you don’t embarrass yourself in front of the client! 😅
👀 Behind the scenes, it’s not all glamorous. It’s hours of setting up, testing, adjusting, and hoping the tech doesn’t fail you when it counts. 🎻
While the audience gets the polished performance, we know the real battle happens *before* the first note even plays. From ensuring every cable is in place to making friends with your sound engineer (trust me, it helps!), it’s the little things that make the big moments flawless.
💡 Pro tip: Never underestimate the power of a smooth soundcheck—it can make or break your gig!

As an independent musician on a budget, I did what any resourceful artist would do—asked my performance manager (aka, my supportive husband) to snap some iPhone shots of me and my electric cello around the neighborhood for Instagram. 😆

You thought being a musician was all late-night shows and relaxing days, but the real hustle starts at 6 AM! 🌅
💪 It’s not just about staying on top of the music—it’s about being strong enough to handle the grind. From workouts to emails, this is the side of being an electric cellist you don’t see.
Balancing gigs, meetings, rehearsals and keeping my energy up for every performance requires endurance—and that starts in the gym. 🎻✨

As musicians, we’ve all been there—filling up our calendars with gigs and thinking that the busier we are, the more successful we’ll be. But here’s the truth: more gigs don’t mean more growth. 🎶
Take Joseph Haydn, for example. His career didn’t explode because he played everywhere. He thrived because he partnered with one visionary client—Prince Esterházy—who valued his work and gave him the freedom to create. This one relationship allowed him to focus on his craft and produce some of his greatest works.
In today’s world, chasing quantity can leave you burned out and creatively drained. Real success comes from quality clients—those who value your talent, believe in your vision, and give you the space to grow. They don’t just pay you; they support your journey.
If you’re tired of the hustle and want to focus on moving up the value chain, start building long-term relationships with clients who get it. 🎻

Back then, I was a music school student at the prestigious Aspen Music Festival, surrounded by celebrities, athletes, and elite vacationers.
While playing for the high-society crowd seemed glamorous, behind the scenes I was hustling—performing on the streets after a long morning of orchestra rehearsals and lessons by day and working as a cocktail waitress in a chef-owned restaurant by night and, just to make it through those 9 intense weeks of being a working musician. (Should’ve known the system was rigged then 🥱)
Fast forward to today, I brought 7 of my friends on an unforgettable girls’ trip to my second home in Colorado. No busking, no waiting tables, just pure enjoyment and freedom away from work, wife & mom duties.
What’s wild is realizing how far I’ve come from that starry-eyed 19-year-old, dreaming of luxury and fame. Now, I’ve built a music career on my terms—doing what I love, enjoying financial freedom, and creating a life that feels like my own.
Here’s what I’ve learned along the way:
1️⃣ You Don’t Need Approval – Waiting for the world to validate your dreams is a waste of time.
2️⃣ Work Hard, But Don’t Forget to Play – It’s not just about the grind; building in joy along the way makes the journey worthwhile.
3️⃣ Your Tribe Matters – Surround yourself with people who push you forward, not those who hold you back.
4️⃣ Redefine Success for Yourself – Fame isn’t the only way to “make it.” Wealth, freedom, and fulfillment can look however you want them to.
5️⃣ Never Underestimate Growth – That young girl who hustled for tips while playing in a 9 week music festival never imagined she’d one day be here, thriving.
If you’d told me at 19 that I’d be living a life of purpose, joy, and freedom, I wouldn’t have believed you. But here I am—living it. 💫

Three years ago, I stood with my young boys at the 9/11 Memorial in New York City, feeling the weight of the moment and grappling with the decision: should I teach them about the horrors of that day?
As an immigrant, I’d lived through my own struggles and conflicts, but I wanted them to understand not just the pain, but the power of unity that can rise from it.
Today, as a musician, a mother of two, and the founder of @jccellostudio , I realize that music is my way of healing and uniting people across cultures and beliefs.
We live in a world plagued by conflict, division, and a lack of love. But through my performances, I hope to create moments of connection—bringing together people from all walks of life.
Here are 5 truths I’ve seen about today’s unrest:
1️⃣ Fear drives division: Whether it’s religion or politics, people fear what they don’t understand. But fear melts away in the presence of music.
2️⃣ Love has no boundaries: Music has no language. It transcends beliefs, customs, and backgrounds, reminding us that love is universal.
3️⃣ Religion can unite or divide: I’ve seen firsthand how faith can either be a bridge or a wall. But music opens hearts in ways words cannot.
4️⃣ Healing is collective: No single person or community can heal alone. We must come together, and music is one of the purest forms of collective healing.
5️⃣ Hope is a melody that never fades: In the darkest moments, music has a way of reviving hope, lifting spirits, and showing us the light within.
On this September 11th, as the world remembers, let’s reflect not just on tragedy, but on the strength we find when we come together. Through @jccellostudio , I’m committed to creating musical experiences that bridge divides and elevate the human spirit.
Let’s unite, heal, and find hope in harmony. 🎶

In the world of music, one powerful client can transform everything.
Joseph Haydn, often called the “Father of the Symphony,” didn’t reach his towering heights alone. He had the unwavering support of Prince Nikolaus Esterházy, a noble patron who provided him with a stable income, artistic freedom, and a space to innovate.
For nearly three decades, Haydn thrived under this partnership, creating some of his most celebrated works, like the “Paris” and “London” Symphonies.
But it wasn’t just money that shaped Haydn’s success—it was the visionary support of someone who understood the value of his craft.
Prince Esterházy didn’t just fund Haydn’s work, he believed in it, actively participating in the creative process, encouraging bold ideas, and fostering the innovation that allowed Haydn to flourish.
Imagine what you could accomplish with the right support. Whether you’re a musician or someone hiring for an event, partnering with the best—clients or artists—makes all the difference.
Haydn’s story reminds us that quality clients provide stability, creativity, and opportunity. In turn, we musicians elevate every event, turning it into something unforgettable.
I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to all of you—my loyal followers, current clients, and even those of you just discovering my work.
🎶 Your belief in me and your continued support allow me to live out my passion, just like Haydn did with his top-tier patron, Prince Esterházy.
Haydn’s career flourished because he focused on quality, not quantity. He didn’t chase every opportunity but partnered with one visionary client who truly valued his art. It’s a powerful reminder that working with the right people creates something truly magical. 🌟
Thank you for being part of this journey.

🎻 Why Real Connections Matter More Than Platforms 🎻
After 3 years of paying for leads on Thumbtack that went nowhere, I’ve learned the value of real relationships over platforms that profit from musicians without giving back. Here’s what musicians & clients need to know:
1. Musicians: Stop paying $40+ for leads that ghost you. Focus on building direct relationships and personal connections—that’s how I landed partnerships with NBA athletes & celebrities.
2. Clients: Hiring a musician means investing in their years of skill and professionalism. Low-ball offers hurt everyone. Value real talent.
3. Musicians: Build your own brand for long-term success. Platforms like Thumbtack don’t grow your career, but personal connections will.
4. Clients: Choose musicians with a proven track record. They’ll elevate your event and leave a lasting impact.
5. Musicians: Say no to unsustainable pricing. Set boundaries, know your worth, and focus on clients who value your craft.
💡 Let’s build relationships over transactions. That’s the real path to success.

✨ From Exploitation to Empowerment: Here’s Why I Show Up Every Day to Educate, Share My Journey & Build Relationships Instead of Paying Third-Party Sites Like Thumbtack ✨
1️⃣ Leads Cost More Than You Earn- As an independent musician, every penny counts. With Thumbtack, you’re paying upwards of $40 for one lead that may never convert into an actual gig.
Paying for leads that ghost you, just to get your foot in the door, drains not only your bank account but also your energy. I’ve invested hundreds of dollars into Thumbtack, only to find that most users are looking for “discounted deals” or amateurs, not professionals.
2️⃣ Real Opportunities Are Built Through Direct Connections- Running my own ads, nurturing relationships on social media, and personal connections have led to residency offers and partnerships with celebrities, NBA leagues, and athletes.
None of these valuable opportunities came from Thumbtack. Thumbtack’s system doesn’t value quality connections—it values the number of leads, regardless of their actual potential.
3️⃣ Unaware Clients & Unsustainable Budgets- Too often, the clients on Thumbtack are not familiar with the value of hiring a professional musician. Budgets are often low and uninformed.
Thumbtack doesn’t help clients understand what goes into a high-quality performance or production. It’s a race to the bottom in terms of pricing, which leads to the devaluation of our craft.
🫡 I’ve learned this the hard way, and I’m here to educate musicians on the importance of setting boundaries, protecting themselves, and building relationships over relying on platforms that exploit talent for profit.
🙋🏼♀️ Showing up on Instagram every day, sharing my story, and fostering connections is the best way I’ve built real partnerships and found loyal clients.
🚫 Instead of chasing leads, I focus on educating both clients and musicians on how to build lasting, direct relationships. Together, we can break the cycle of exploitation. 🎶

🎻 Witness the power of live music that transcends the ordinary. 🎻
When you work directly with the artist behind the music, you’re not just booking a performer—you’re creating a tailor-made experience that leaves a lasting impact.
Here’s why it benefits your vision:
1️⃣ Personalized Connection: Collaborating directly with the artist allows you to bring your vision to life without middlemen, ensuring that every detail is crafted to reflect your unique event.
2️⃣ Creative Flexibility: Artists can adapt and customize performances on the spot, tailoring the music to the energy of the moment and elevating the atmosphere for your guests.
3️⃣ Exclusive Expertise: With a direct relationship, you gain access to the artist’s creative insight and event experience, allowing for seamless planning and execution, ensuring your event stands out.

🎻 Why Thumbtack Pro Hurts Independent Musicians (And How You Can Help Us Thrive) 🎶
Thumbtack Pro might seem like a useful tool for finding musicians, but in my experience, it’s working against the very professionals you’re looking for. As an electric cellist, I’ve seen why it’s become more of a trap than a blessing. Here’s why:
1️⃣ You Pay to Play—and Lose: Thumbtack forces musicians to commit to high budgets just to get leads. “Direct leads” can cost up to $40, but we often end up paying more for the lead than we earn from the gig. This cycle is unsustainable and draining for independent artists.
2️⃣ The Real Connections Happen OFFLINE: I’ve built partnerships with NBA leagues, celebrities, and top brands—not through Thumbtack, but through personal connections and social media. Thumbtack users tend to look for budget deals, not real value or artistry. If you want something special, build a relationship with the musician directly.
3️⃣ Musicians Deserve Protection, Not Exploitation: Thumbtack charges musicians for every lead—even when clients don’t respond. It’s a system designed to exploit musicians, much like large institutions and labels. Musicians, protect yourselves, know your worth, and set clear guidelines to ensure you’re paid fairly.
I’m on Instagram daily to build relationships, share my journey, and educate—because genuine connections are far more valuable than relying on platforms that profit off musicians.
💡 If you’re looking for a music professional, seek talent, not discounts.
🌟 Ask questions. Build rapport. See the value musicians bring, not just the price tag. We create unforgettable experiences, not just “fill a slot.”

🙏 A huge thanks to everyone who has followed my journey and become a part of this incredible community.
From the chaos of a fractured childhood to finding harmony in my life and music, my path as an immigrant and musician has been full of challenges. Coming to the U.S. at the age of 10, I faced the complexities of growing up between cultures and the weight of my mom’s mental health struggles.
Through the darkness—hospitalizations, long-term care, and painful family separations—I discovered my true self. With the support of loving foster parents and step-grandparents, I pursued my passion for music at top conservatories, finding solace and expression through the cello.
Today, as a wife, mother, and professional cellist, I’m grateful for the strength and resilience that have shaped not only my life but also the foundation of JC Cello Studio.

I know my recent post may have triggered some of you, so let’s talk about it.
👀 When you’re creating over 160 pieces of content a month, speaking your truth, and building a brand, not everyone will agree with or understand your journey. But here’s the thing: why is it that my experience and boundaries provoke such strong reactions in others?
Social media is a powerful tool, but it’s also a mirror, reflecting our insecurities and unresolved wounds. When I share my truth, it’s not about you—it’s about me, my work, my family, and the millions of things that matter to me. If my content stirs something within you, I encourage you to explore that feeling. Is it a wound that needs healing? A boundary that needs strengthening?
I’ve learned that the more you share authentically, the more resistance you’ll encounter—not just from others, but from within yourself. It’s not easy to put yourself out there in a world where many live in fear, shame, and projection. But I’ve also learned the power of boundaries. Boundaries protect our energy, our peace, and our authenticity.
To those who resonate with this, I see you. It’s not easy being vulnerable, but it’s necessary for growth. And to those who struggle with my openness, I get it. Not everyone is ready to face their own truths, and that’s okay. But know this—I’m unwavering in my sense of self and my intentions. I share not for validation, but because I know who I am and what I stand for.
In the end, we are all on our own journeys. If my path triggers something in you, take it as an opportunity to look inward. Social media is a place to connect, learn, and grow—but only if we approach it with awareness and a willingness to confront our own reflections. Let’s all strive to build boundaries that protect our peace and allow others the space to be who they are without feeling the need to project our own fears and insecurities onto them.

7. Ability to Apologize
8. Authenticity

🎻 Tradition has its place, but it’s not the only way. For years, I followed the script, believing that success in music meant seeking approval from institutions and academia.
But what did that lead to? Exhaustion, exploitation, and a life that didn’t feel like mine. It wasn’t until I took a risk—stepping outside the lines and creating my own path—that I found true success.
This is for every artist who feels like they’re suffocating under the weight of expectations. Your path is your own, and it’s time to embrace it.
Let @jccellostudio redefine what’s possible for your next event. ✨

🎻 Passion is supposed to be enough, right? That’s what we’re told. But I learned the hard way that passion without strategy is a fast track to burnout.
I spent years pouring my soul into my music, only to find myself working 18-hour days just to scrape by. It wasn’t until I stopped playing by the rules and started treating my craft like a business that I began to thrive.
My story is for every artist who feels trapped in a cycle of survival. You deserve more. Let @jccellostudio show you what happens when passion meets purpose. ✨

Some friendships aren’t what they seem. Gina and Tucker were once close to me—until their jealousy, lies, and toxic behavior almost tore my life apart. They tried to sabotage my marriage, turned our mutual friends against me, and projected their insecurities onto me. But I refused to let their darkness consume me.
I walked away from the drama and gossip, choosing instead to focus on what truly mattered—my music, my family, and my happiness. In the last four years, I’ve built a thriving career as a solo artist, grown JC Cello Studio, and found success beyond what I ever imagined. My marriage is stronger than ever, and I’ve surrounded myself with people who genuinely support me.
To those still stuck in toxic circles: You don’t have to stay. Letting go is hard, but it’s worth it. Your life will flourish when you surround yourself with positivity. Here’s to rising above and finding success in the face of betrayal.
✨Names have been changed to protect their privacy and avoid entangling their energy with my journey.

🎶 From Courtside to Center Stage: How I Scored Big with Texas Legends! 🏀✨
Exciting News!🎉 I’m thrilled to announce that JC Cello Studio is now an official partner of the @texaslegends , the NBA G League team! 🏀 This season, I’ll be bringing electrifying live music to their events, creating unforgettable experiences that blend the energy of sports with the power of music.
But that’s not all! At a recent networking event, I had the incredible opportunity to soak in wisdom from Josh Howard, ex-NBA Mavericks player. His insights reminded me of a crucial lesson every independent musician needs to hear: To unlock the next level, you must learn how to move up in the value chain.
Here’s the truth: Success in the music industry isn’t just about having a massive social media following. It’s about building real relationships, understanding what people truly need, and positioning yourself as a valuable player in the industry.
How to Move Up the Value Chain:
1. Be Your Own Manager: Take control of your career. Understand the business side of music.
2. Build Your Music Brand: Develop a strong, recognizable brand that resonates with your audience.
3. Become Your Own Label & Studio: Take charge of your production and distribution. The more control you have, the higher you climb.
4. Outsource Strategically: Once you’ve mastered the essentials, outsource tasks that drain your energy, allowing you to focus on what you do best—creating and performing.
This approach has not only transformed my career but also opened doors to bigger and better opportunities, like partnering with the Texas Legends. 🚀
Musicians, let’s elevate our game! Join me on this journey to the top of the value chain. The sky’s the limit, and we need more women leading the charge! 💪🎻

🎻 Fear can keep us safe, but it can also keep us small. For years, I stayed within the confines of what was familiar, believing that security meant success. But deep down, I knew I was meant for more. It took a fearless leap into the unknown to discover my true potential as an artist.
This reel captures that daring moment when I chose to break free, not just for myself but for everyone who believes that music should be about passion, not just performance.
Ready to take your event to the next level? @jccellostudio offers music that’s as bold and unforgettable as your vision. ✨

🎻 Perfection is a heavy burden, one that I carried for decades as a classically trained cellist. The endless pursuit of flawless technique and approval left me disconnected from my true self. It wasn’t until I broke free from the rigid expectations of the classical world that I discovered my true voice as an artist.
Today, I channel that authenticity into every performance, creating moments that resonate with the soul. This reel captures the pivotal shift from seeking perfection to embracing purpose, and how that change transformed both my life and my music.
If you’re looking for an event that goes beyond the ordinary, @jccellostudio brings the kind of music that touches hearts and leaves lasting impressions. ✨

🎻 The music world is brutal—especially for those of us who don’t fit the traditional mold.
I was told I’d never succeed, that my path was a dead-end because I wasn’t willing to conform.
But that rejection became my greatest motivator.
Instead of shrinking back, I built a career on my own terms, working with top brands, celebrities, and events that value creativity over conformity.
This journey isn’t just mine; it’s a testament to anyone who’s ever been told they’re not enough.
If you’re tired of the same old tunes, let @jccellostudio bring a fresh, powerful sound to your next event. ✨

🎶 Think Beyond the Studio: Moving Up the Value Chain in the Music Industry🎶
Building a music studio can be exciting, but after two decades in this industry, I’ve learned it’s not the key to financial freedom or long-term success. The music industry is vast, and to truly thrive, you must move beyond just making paychecks and embrace the full spectrum of opportunities.
Here’s why this matters:
🎧 Diversification = Stability
The industry is multifaceted. Whether you’re a producer, streamer, creative, live musician, or independent label owner, leveraging your talents across various areas—like maximizing streams, refining production, teaching, or elevating performances—creates a more stable and sustainable career.
💡 Strategic Positioning = Bigger Rewards
It’s not just about working harder; it’s about working smarter. Think of your career as climbing a staircase, where each step represents a different industry role. The higher you climb, the more valuable you become, both in income and influence.
🌟 Sustainability = Longevity
A music career is a marathon, not a sprint. By focusing on moving up the value chain, you set yourself up for long-term success, adapting to industry changes and finding new ways to monetize your skills.
Bottom Line?
Don’t limit yourself to just a studio. Think bigger, diversify your skill set, and position yourself strategically.

🎻 From Sheltered Prodigy to Electric Trailblazer✨
“Once I really found that I decided I was gonna be a rapper, I just shut up and I stopped telling people…”
– Kanye West.
Sometimes, we have to stop sharing our dreams and start living them. For years, I was caught in the trap of what others thought success should look like—long hours, endless approval, and barely making ends meet. But then, I found my own rhythm. I stopped waiting for permission and started crafting my own path.
This reel is my story of breaking free from the chains of traditional expectations and embracing a journey of true empowerment and transformation. It’s about the grit, the passion, and the bold decision to redefine what success means on my own terms.
To every independent artist out there: dare to break the mold. Trust in your unique voice and keep pushing boundaries. Your journey might be hard, but the freedom and fulfillment on the other side are worth every step.

🎻 What happens when a sheltered, classically trained cellist decides to break free from the mold? You get a journey of transformation, resilience, and a redefining of success.
As a young immigrant, I was led to believe that approval from institutions and academia was the only path to success in music. But after 30 years of grueling hours and near-exploitation, I realized that true freedom and happiness were never in that path.
Taking a bet on myself, I educated beyond my instrument, built a brand, clientele, and moved up in the value chain of the music industry. Today, I’m proud to work with corporations, brands, celebrities, and more, all while enjoying an abundant private life with my family. This reel captures the pivotal moments of that journey.

🔥 Let’s get real. The truth? Playing for the big names doesn’t always mean big rewards. I’ve been there—10 years hustling for ensembles and organizations, believing that hard work alone would give me time and financial freedom. But guess what? The reality is a grind that’s often worse than a barista gig—unscaleable work, hard schedules, no benefits, and barely a livable wage.
💡 If you’re struggling to balance your music career with your personal life, you’re not alone. Most musicians are constantly working—teaching, performing, practicing—never catching a break. And the system isn’t designed for those of us who want both a thriving career and a family. You’re often forced to choose.
🌱 But here’s the kicker: You don’t have to play by those rules. I figured out a way to do both—build a family and a successful music business—without sacrificing my dreams or my sanity. That’s why I created @musiccareerbestie, where I share the exact system that took me from a burned-out orchestra musician to working with celebrities, athletes, and national brands through @jccellostudio.

🎶 Starting out as a classically trained musician comes with its own set of challenges, especially for women balancing their artistry with personal responsibilities. Here are 6 common setbacks many female artists face:
1. Stereotypes & Bias: Overcoming preconceived notions about classical training and proving your versatility in a competitive industry. 🌟
2. Career & Family Balance: Juggling the demands of a music career with the responsibilities of raising children and managing a household. 👶🏠
3. Pregnancy & Performance: Navigating the physical and professional impacts of pregnancy while maintaining your musical career. 🎻🤰
4. Work-Life Integration: Finding harmony between your personal life, career ambitions, and responsibilities towards your spouse and family. 💼❤️
5. Financial Pressures: Managing financial stability and career investments in a field that often demands high upfront costs. 💸🎵
6. Mental & Physical Well-being: Maintaining mental health and physical stamina amidst the pressures of a demanding career. 🧠💪
Despite these challenges, perseverance and passion pave the way to success. Keep pushing forward and supporting each other.

Today is the last day of chapter 37. Turning 38 feels like a journey of deep self-discovery and growth. Here’s what I’ve learned:
1. I now have more compassion for my younger self who played small, people-pleased, and avoided standing up for herself when it was needed. I’ve learned the importance of asserting my boundaries.
2. Observing others deal with negativity and internal struggles, I’ve gained more patience and curiosity about their journeys.
3. I handle setbacks in my growth more efficiently now, redirecting my energy quickly and without wasted effort.
4. I’m less easily offended, understanding that people’s reactions are shaped by their own traumas and beliefs. I choose to observe without taking things personally.
5. I’m falling in love with the woman I’m becoming, and I align with her values daily, staying true to myself through reflection and intention.
6. I’m learning to protect my energy from others’ fears and anxieties, especially when they trigger my CPTSD. I carefully manage my interactions to safeguard my well-being.
7. The foundation of my life—my marriage, parenting, and work-life balance—starts with my husband and me. It’s our greatest asset and something I deeply cherish and nurture.
8. In parenting, I strive to be honest and reflective, quickly apologizing and showing empathy without feeling shame.
Thank you for being part of my 38th chapter. Here’s to embracing growth and authenticity every day!

🎶✨ As a 37-year-old live performer who’s seen it all—from starting as an exploited orchestral musician to now balancing family life with a thriving career—I’ve come to realize that not everything in a music career gets celebrated. Here are 5 overlooked aspects:
1. Years Lost in the Wrong Lane - I spent over 10 years navigating the wrong part of the industry, which was a tough and eye-opening experience. It was a necessary detour on the path to finding my true musical voice.
2. Balancing Family and Music - With two kids and a family to support, every gig means making sacrifices at home. It’s a delicate balance that often goes unrecognized.
3. Lack of Support for Musician Moms - Breastfeeding and being a working musician often clash, and the industry still lacks robust support for new mothers. Finding a balance is a daily struggle.
4. Financial Instability - Even as an established artist, the financial ups and downs can be challenging. The dream doesn’t always align with financial reality.
5. Finding a Support Network - It’s tough to find other women in music who are juggling similar family responsibilities. The lack of visibility and support can be isolating.
Here’s to the unsung efforts and resilience that keep us moving forward. 🎤💪

After over a decade of juggling multiple music jobs, teaching from 7:00am-4:00pm, and giving private lessons and orchestra rehearsals from 5:00pm-10:00pm, I realized my hard work ethic and model minority upbringing led me to an unsustainable career. Despite earning a decent salary and achieving milestones like buying a home, a dream car, and starting a family, the burnout was real.
In 2000, after being let go by the Richardson Symphony Orchestra, where I faced constant late payments and saw two of my section principals pass away under grueling conditions, I knew it was time for a change. This pivotal moment pushed me to pursue my dream as a solo performer. Fast forward to today, I’m grateful for the support from my first clients who believed in me. 🥹
Today, I thrive both financially and personally thanks to the systems I’ve built. My music brand, @jccellostudio, offers streamlined live music booking, making it easy for clients to hire a live musician. Additionally, through @musiccareerbestie, I teach a proven system that helped me grow my solo performance income from $0 to $10,000 a month. This flagship course includes all my cheat sheets, templates, contracts, proposals, and crucial strategies that many musicians lack.
Thank you for being here and supporting an independent artist! 💖

I’m genuinely relieved to opt out of participating in this election and potentially future ones as well. Does anyone else share this sentiment?
The current political climate in this country is incredibly damaging to our mental and emotional well-being. The relentless divisiveness and hostility surrounding elections are not just exhausting—they’re detrimental to our overall mental health. While I firmly believe in the values of humanity and humility, the pervasive divisiveness makes achieving these ideals seem increasingly unlikely, and perhaps that’s an unfortunate reality we need to accept.
In my view, artists, musicians, and writers hold significant power to drive meaningful change. Their influence and creativity often resonate on a deeper level and can inspire societal shifts in ways that mere voting cannot. They have the ability to address complex issues and foster empathy through their work, offering a different, yet impactful, form of participation in shaping the world.
Thank you for being here. You matter. 🎶

As an independent minority woman musician with a lifelong passion for music, the recent Netflix documentary “Dirty Pop” has only deepened my confusion about the boy bands I once admired.
While I’m not interested in delving into Lou Pearlman’s criminal activities, I am compelled to question the shocking sense of entitlement displayed by these bands.
They lived in luxury, traveled in private jets, received constant training, and were given unparalleled exposure and opportunities, yet they seemed to think that breaking an artist should come without cost.
